6 Quick Links for Crowdfunders and Tabletop Creators

I have a running list of topics to write about on this blog. While looking at it for today’s post, I realized that there are several short topics that don’t require a full post, but they’re still worth mentioning. Hence the potpourri of topics and links below.

  • Smart Fox Tabletop: A few of my fellow publishers in St. Louis, Genius Games and Grey Fox Games, have teamed up to share a building. They currently have an excess of space in their new facility, so they’re offering warehousing, distribution brokerage (for tabletop games), and fulfillment services. While I haven’t used their services, I know these guys personally and trust them 100%. So if you’re looking for those services, feel free to contact John at john@geniusgames.org.
  • Instagram: It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally trying to be more active on Instagram. I don’t use my phone much at all for social media, and Instagram pretty much requires that, so my participation here will mostly be photos about game design, Stonemaier Games, games I’m playing, and cats (but probably not much interaction–if you want that, Facebook is definitely the place for me).
  • The Art of the Successful Kickstarter Video: The folks at We Make Games recently shared a great series of posts with me that detail the ins and outs of creating an awesome Kickstarter video. I love it when companies that offer services share their knowledge for those who can’t afford such services, and that’s exactly what they’re doing here (and on subsequent posts).
  • Kickstarter Store: Kickstarter makes it very clear that they’re not a store…but what about a brick-and-mortar store that only sells crowdfunded products? Apparently such a store, We the People, is so successful in Singapore that they’re already expanding to other countries. At first it seemed a little odd/limiting, but there’s so much innovation on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and other crowdfunding sites that I can see how these would be a pretty cool place to shop.
  • Tabletop Generation: Recently a new hub launched for anyone in the tabletop game industry. It’s called Tabletop Generation, and I think it has a lot of potential as a creation-focused complement to BoardGameGeek.
  • The Good, The Bad, & the Misinformed: Daniel Zayas, who wrote a guest post for this blog last year, has been writing a great weekly series that highlights 3 Kickstarter projects. He doesn’t hold back, so brace yourself for bluntness, but I think there are some great insights and examples here.

What’s a resource you discovered recently that might benefit your fellow creators?

  1. I think you’re overworking your office manager. (at least mine seem to think so, as they are always “cat” napping on the job. :)
