Business Has No Borders – Stonemaier Games

Business Has No Borders

Yesterday I was struck by a pattern that emerged from the first few e-mails I wrote. Each of them was a response to the following person:

  • a new retailer in Australia
  • a co-worker in Denmark
  • a blogger in Iran
  • a factory in China
  • a game designer in Brazil
  • an ambassador in Canada

Usually those locations wouldn’t even occur to me–such is the wonder of e-mail–but certain events of the past week have heightened my awareness and appreciation for the diversity and breadth of the board game industry.

Business has no borders. No matter your creed, race, gender, age, nationality, and sexual orientation, I want to sell to you and I’m happy to work with you. Regardless of the size, shape, or location of your table, it’s my goal to bring joy to it.

What can crowdfunders do to break down walls, barriers, and borders? Here are a few ideas:

  • Offer worldwide shipping from a variety of regions. Here’s how.
  • Translate instructions into a number of languages for digital download. Here’s how.
  • Put yourself in someone else’s shoes when you’re preparing your project page. Here’s how.

How do you strive to reduce the borders for your crowdfunding campaigns and your business?

  3. For Halfsies Dice World Tour I sent 50 one-of-a-kind dice Prototypes around the world to be photographed in the name of Unity Through Gaming.
They were all photographed by volunteer gamer-photographers as an act of participation in said unity.

Here’s what we managed to accomplish:

    • 5 continents
    • 15 countries
    • 20 national landmarks
    • 30 volunteer gamer-photographers
    • 50 unique sets at 50 unique locations…
    • 1 unified world full of gamers

Honestly, it has been an epic and life-changing experience.
Here’s the BGG (RPGG) link to some of the photos that were taken. I update it regularly.
You can find some on the Dice Maniac’s Club (group) on facebook too.

      1. It’s been a huge blessing to work with so many amazing people from so many amazing locations and CULTURES. Humbled by the size of the world, and the kindness of people in it.

    Good times!

    Cheers,

    1. That’s awesome, Joe! It’s amazing that we live in an age when such diversity of people can come together to create something new.

  5. Try hard to make your product as language-independenter as possible :)

Also I remember someone indicating to turn Rulebooks IKEA style, with icons instead of letters.
