You have new visitors! This expansion for Viticulture provides you with a new set of 80 visitors cards, which focus less on victory points and more on the wine business itself. These cards have their own unique backs, as they must be played without other visitor cards from Viticulture, Tuscany, and Moor Visitors.

Components

  • 40 summer visitor cards
  • 40 winter visitor cards

Visit from the Rhine Valley is also available from retailers. The SKU is STM108.

FAQ

  • Why do these cards have different backs? The Rhine Wine visitor cards are designed to be their own unique set, not a combined set to be shuffled together with existing cards. Both sets of cards are viable to play with, and they each offer different experiences (one geared more towards VP; the other focused more on the wine business. If they’re all combined together, you will likely create an imbalance, as some people might end up drawing VP cards and others may draw the wine business cards.

Notes

  • 4 of the cards can only be used with Tuscany.
  • 6 of the cards are the same as existing cards (banker, contractor, craftsman, harvest expert, zymologist, and uncertified oenologist)

    1. When using Rhine Valley, you’ll only use Rhine Valley visitors (it’s designed to be played without any other visitor cards).

  1. Hi Jamey. How does the Rhine Valley expansion play in solo? as base Viticulture is a race game to a degree. Will this expansion slow you down vs. the automa, hence making the game harder? Can Rhine Valley be integrated with Tuscany? Thanks

    1. I’m not involved with Automa, David, but I’ve sent your question to Morten to answer. And yes, Rhine Valley is fully compatible with Tuscany.

      1. I’m sorry to say that I don’t remember whether it slows down the game. If it slows down multiplayer, then it’s very likely to also slow down solo and thus make the game harder.

Rhine Vally works in solo and IIRC Rhine Vally it works with Tuscany but I’ll leave that question to Jamey who knows for sure.

  2. Hi Jamey,

I have a question about the “Old Manager”. The sentence on the card “Place 1 star, each opponent who has all 6 stars on the map must retrieve 3 of their star”, is it meaning that the opponent can place the star on the map and get the prize on map shown again after they retrieved the stars?

      1. Indeed, that is correct. So, you’re gaining a temporary boost in area control, but your opponents are regaining the ability to gain the placement benefits.

  3. Jamey, for influencer card do you have to place a star before you can move other players’ stars? in other words, if you don’t have any more stars to place, then can you still move other players stars?

    1. I don’t have that card in front of me (feel free to share the exact text), but as for your second question, whenever you’ve placed all of your stars, if you were to gain benefits to place more, you would move one of your stars instead. So in this case I think you would move 1 of your stars and then move another player’s star.

      1. The card says “place 1 star, then move up
to 3 stars owned by any player.” that’s why i thought if you don’t have any more spare stars in your supply to place it, then you are not allowed to move the stars owned by other players. thanks for the quick response. we really enjoyed your game.

          1. Hi Jamey, few more questions…1. if we put mafioso on yoke, do we get to harvest two fields? Also, can mafioso perform the same task twice on action strictures? 2. in visit from the rhine valley set, the visitor card “son in law” reads “lay this card on a field. for the remainder of the game you may choose to harvest this field… but only to a total grape value of 3.” does it mean we can harvest only one grape value of 3 or we can harvest two grapes whose value add up to 3? also can we harvest the same field twice in a year with this card? as you can tell we are enthusiastic fans of Viticulture, hope there will be more games like this coming out!

          2. I’m pretty sure the Mafioso’s description specifically says that its ability triggers if it’s placed on an action “on the board”–the yoke is not on the board, so the Mafioso is just a regular worker when placed there.

Son-in-Law says: “Lay this card on a field. For the remainder of the game you may choose to harvest this field in addition to your first action each winter, but only to a total grape value of 3.”

Basically, this visitor gives you a free harvest of the field it’s on without you needing to even take the harvest action. When you take your first action of the winter, you, may immediately harvest the Son-in-Law field, but the total value of any grape(s) you harvest from that field cannot exceed 3. You cannot break other rules with this card (i.e., you can still only harvest this field once per year).

Also, we’re happy to help here, but you’ll often get faster answers (and engage with others who enjoy Viticulture) if you post these types of rules questions in the Viticulture Facebook group. You can even post photos of the cards you’re talking about there, which is quite helpful.

  4. There are cards they let you destroy one structure. If i destroy the 2Lira/3Lira buildings that are needed to plant some Kind of grapes (watering for exaple), do i have to destroy the planted grapes too?

  5. I have some questions for Viticulture visit from Rhine Valley

    1.) WIne store owner
The Wine symbol is for only red / white wine or all wine including Blush and sparkling?
    2.) Wine Engineer
    Up to 3 times mean
    a. I just had to pay 2 lira to do it 3 times
    b. I have to pay 6 lira to do 3 times

    1. 1. I don’t have the card in front of me, but if it’s the gray “any wine” icon, it includes blush and sparkling.

      2. You must pay 6 lira if you want to do it 3 times.

  6. Hello Jamey – awesome games, throughout, by the way!

If I currently have Viti EE and Tuscany EE – can i get the two expansions Moors and Rhine Valley and play them all together or what are the limitations?

    Thank you & best thoughts

    1. Thanks! If you play with the Rhine Valley visitors, they’re the only visitors you’ll use in that game. Otherwise, everything else can be mixed together.

  7. Hi Jamey,

Why is the Structure Reorganizer Visitor restricted for play with Tuscany? Is it because it would be too powerful in the base game?

  8. Hi Jamie, can I ask a couple of really basic questions about the expansions?

    1. Once you have shuffled the Moor Visitors into the main Viticulture deck, is there a way to easily separate the decks again?

    2. Is the Rhine Visitors compatible with both Viticulture and Tuscany Essential Editions?

      1. Thanks Wendy, on point 1 I must have read conflicting advice on BGG. I thought the Moor pack was to COMBINE with the Viticulture EE deck, not to replace it. I understand, however, that Rhine IS a replacement deck.

This seems to make sense given that there are 76 visitors in VEE and only 40 in MV. The Moor Visitors are also different from those in the base game aren’t they? There is one exception to this, I think – the Promoter. Not sure of the rationale for having two of these. I also have a Harvest machine structure which, as far as I can see is for adding to the TEE expansion.

Given that its difficult to see how the two decks (VEE and MV) are different, I presume the designers didn’t mean for you to be able to separate Moor out from VEE once you’d shuffled them in. The only difference I can see is that the Moor pack has a purplish tinge on the edges when viewing the deck from the side.

        1. It’s correct that Moor Visitors combines with Viticulture EE cards, while Rhine Valley is designed to be used on its own. Moor Visitors contains a replacement card for the Promoter (which isn’t really needed for Viticulture EE), as well as 40 unique cards.

  9. Hi Jamey,

In this expansion there are two docents (one in summer visitors pack, the other-in winter visitors), is this correct?

    1. Hi Fabio, we love working with Ghenos Games for the Italian versions of many of our games. I’m not sure what their plans are for Rhine Valley, but feel free to tell them you want it!

      1. As far as I know, Ghenos won’t translate them. I asked them a couple of months ago by email, and they said it’s a producy reserved to Germany.

      2. I asked Ghenos Games via email a couple of months ago as I was interested as well. They said it’s an expansion thought for Germany (but… is that really the case Jamey?) and they don’t plan to translate it.

  10. Okay, I’m back! The “extra” option for the theologian reads, “1-value grape token,” so you get a 3 red grape and an additional 1-value red or white grape.

  11. Does the Winter Visitor Theologian mean you can harvest eg a 3 red grape and make it a 4 red grape, or is it a 3 red grape and you also have an additional 1 red or white grape?

    1. I am out of the office for a few hours. Can you type out the text for the card and I’ll try to get to it if I can?
