Estimated Release: Mid-2024

In Rolling Realms Redux, players compete to earn the most stars over 3 rounds in a series of minigames (there are 12 different all-new “realms” included in the game). This is a roll-and-write game, meaning that players will write on the game components using dry-erase markers.

Each turn, one player rolls 2 dice (new dice colors in Redux!), and all players use the dice results on their realm cards to generate resources and earn stars. After 3 rounds, the player with the most stars wins!

Rolling Realms Redux is a standalone game, and it includes everything you need to play up to 6 players. It features the same rules and full compatibility with its predecessor, Rolling Realms, but with 12 new realms inspired by popular games from other publishers, a printed version of the living rulebook that will include explanations for all realms (original, new, and promo), a special feature for solo players, and a box designed to fit all realms ever released (printed and planned) sorted by player.

All 12 realms in Rolling Realms Redux are 100% new and unique to this specific product. They were not in Rolling Realms, nor are they promos (past or future).

Rolling Realms Redux will go to print later this year for a mid-2024 release. Sign up here for occasional updates and reveals for this game; this will help us gauge interest for the first print run.

FAQ

How do we know the Rolling Realms Redux box will fit all realms ever printed?

Careful calculations. :) We know almost every variable in play: We know how many realms have already been released (core game and promos), and we know how many realms we’ve already printed but haven’t yet released. We also know that we’ll continue to release a new realm for each new Stonemaier Game. Last, we have enough promo realms either released or already created that we don’t plan to make more–there are more than enough to keep the combinations fresh for years to come even after you have them all.

Will any promo realms be released in the next year (before Rolling Realms Redux)?

Absolutely! The tentative plan is to release all promos we’ve already made before the release of Rolling Realms Redux (we have quite a backlog).

Are the realms in Rolling Realms Redux new?

Yes, they’re completely new realms designed specifically for Rolling Realms Redux. They will only be available in Rolling Realms Redux.

  1. When do you anticipate the last (not including new game promos) of the promos releasing? I assume you planned to have them released by Redux release or just after?

    1. There will likely be a batch of promos with Redux, then most likely one more trio after that. We’ll then have fully caught up, and the plan is just for Stonemaier-inspired realms from then on.

  2. Jamey,

I read through the comments and Rolling Realms Redux page and did not explicitly see the answer to my question below. I have put in my order for Rolling Realms, and will receive it shortly, so forgive me if it is intuitively obvious once you have played the game, but for those of us that have not….

If I have Rolling Realms and Rolling Realms Redux, will I be able to have up to 12 players?

My suspicion is that is not the case without purchasing two copies of a minimum of three promo packs, or a second copy of one of the base games.

I did read that the game was infinitely scalable with multiple purchases of the Rolling Realms base game, but I am just not sure how to obtain a higher player count with the Redux version and with Promo packs.

I am also hoping that there will be reprints of some of the Promo packs that are currently listed as out of stock. I assume the dry erase coating issue has been resolved by this time and that the products are just genuinely out of stock versus out of print.

    1. Thanks for your questions. You’ll only have 6 of each realm, so the player count still just goes up to 6 (unless you buy 2 copies of Rolling Realms Redux).

The coating issue was resolved a while ago–anything that’s out of stock is that way because all inventory has sold. If we get enough back-in-stock requests (see our webstore), we’ll make more.

      1. In the Canadian webstore, I did not see a specific “back-in-stock request” option.

Do I indicate my request to see a product reprinted using the ‘Wishlist’ or do I use the email notification option? ie “Currently Unavailable: Fill in your email address below to be notified when Rolling Realms Promo: Ark Nova is available.”

Or maybe the back-in-stock request should be indicated in some other method?

        1. “Currently Unavailable: Fill in your email address below to be notified when Rolling Realms Promo: Ark Nova is available.”

          That’s the back-in-stock request. Thanks!

          1. Thank you for the prompt reply.

I have added the six out of stock items that I was interested in purchasing using the email option.

Hopefully, all the items will be back in stock at the same time for one shipment…crossing fingers.

  3. I might be missing something here, will the 12 new realms in this box (and future promos) be compatible with the original realms and promos? As in could I buy this when released, and just combine everything together (and if so will Redux use the same card back design/colours as the original so they can be combined)?

  4. Just a thought that’s been running through my mind…have you thought of making a randomizer deck for all the realms?
Here’s my thought process: you have all these cool realms that we get to play, each based on a particular board game, but at times, it seems – to me – that the only connection between the particular realm and its respective board game is a slight nod to the board game (a particular mechanic, the theme, etc.). What I think it’s missing is the cool art connecting the realm with its board game.
I love looking at the art on the wrapper for each set of promo realms, but unless I tear really carefully and hang on to the wrapper (which I’m not always apt to do), then I lose part of that cool connection, as I’ll never see the art again, outside of a little bit of the art faded out on the actual promo.
So, my thought is, with each promo, include one card that has the art of the game (also used on the wrapper) on the front, that could either 1) be added to an extra, individual deck that would be used as a randomizer deck to choose the realms for each round (like in 7 Wonders), or 2) depending on the storage solution for the Rolling Realms Redux box, could be used as a placeholder for individual realms (instead of people having individual decks with all the realms of one color, you would separate the realms and then just hand the color of that realm to the players).
Again, just a thought to keep some of the beautiful art of each realm’s parent game in Rolling Realms!

    1. Thanks for sharing this idea, Jason! Would this add utility over a player simply shuffling their realm cards and randomly selecting 3 realms from them for all players to use? Or is it mostly an aesthetic benefit?

      1. I admit it probably wouldn’t add ease to choosing a realm (having a full deck and shuffling and picking 3 out is far easier than having each realm separate…unless you treated those cards as a randomizer deck). But, for me, it’s primarily for the aesthetic benefit – enjoy the beauty of each realm’s board game counterpart!
        Thanks for engaging!

        1. Actually, thinking about it a little more, the best comparison that I could make would be to Dominion, which has the randomizer deck and also the storage in the box is set up so that you just grab the specific kingdom cards (in this case, the specific colors for a realm) out to use for the round. Thanks again!

  5. Not even remotely a concern, but I’d absolutely love if one of the spines of the box was more “Ultimate collection” looking, rather than some of the new realms. I know this is a standalone game and it needs all of that on here, but for me and others this will be the box we store every single realm in!!

  6. So the new Realm is Poker? I saw the graphic and thought it was going to be Lords of Vegas so was super stoked. But I love poker also so cannot wait to see how you all do the Realm in Redux.

  7. Hey Jamey,
Can you give some pros/cons of buying Rolling Realms now vs waiting for the redux? The big box design is cool, but are there any other big perks to waiting?

    1. The main pro of getting into the game now is that Rolling Realms has 11 completely different realms than those in Rolling Realms Redux. There’s no perk to wait–you can get the game now, enjoy what it has to offer, than essentially add 12 new realms when Rolling Realms Redux is released next summer.

  8. First off, thank you for creating RR! I bring it with me on work trips to introduce coworkers to modern board games.

As for my question, I understand why you went with the markers and eraser cloth you did, but I bought a pack of markers with the eraser integrated into the cap. Will the RRR box have a generic slot to accommodate contraband markers rather than just the stock ones?

Lastly, as I wrote out RRR, I realized it’s R cubed, which relates back to a dice being a cube…there’s might be a gimmick buried in there somewhere…

    1. Thanks! Yes, the insert in RRR is a pretty basic two-canyon insert, as it just needs to hold a bunch of upright cards in a row with a few dividers on one side and things like dice and markers on the other.

  9. A very small nitpick, but given this will be the final and all consolidated box for all things Rolling Realms, have you considered balancing the box art to reflect that, rather than look like a sequel/expansion box. Perhaps even one side/binder having some more simple art like the current RR box, rather than new realms on the side.

    1. Indeed, we’ve thought about the presentation, and something we’re doing on the sides of the box is to add little images from all the various realms.

  10. With Redux, it may be a good opportunity to revisit the size of the dice. I love the large dice in original RR in terms of looks, but sometimes they feel too big to get a “good” roll, just dropping to the table instead. It would be nice if Redux came with a slightly smaller set of dice, something like the dice in King of Tokyo, which still feel large/hefty, but would get good rotation/randomness while rolling 2 dice.

The other item on my wish list would be a nice wooden dice tray like the one Jamey uses, either in the box or as an add-on. That would be slick!

    1. Thanks Mark! I think that’s the first time I’ve heard someone ask for smaller dice. :) The person who made my dice tray is Andy Englund, but the top of the game box works well too!

    2. I agree. I have trouble with the large dice too. I changed mine out to smaller dice. My hands are small and shaking large dice in my hands can be a problem.

      1. I think they’re more designed for lobbing across the table! Ha.

I love using the big dice in my wooden dice tower, make a fantastic sound.

  11. What is the most economical way to get into this game at this point if I own nothing yet? I’m a bit of a completionist so I would want all promos. Will you be offering a All-In Deal with the Redux version or anytime soon?

    1. Thanks Christi! We don’t do all-in deals, but whenever we launch new Rolling Realms promos, we put all Rolling Realms products on sale. So I would suggest that you enter the Rolling Realms world on August 2 (get anything/everything you want, all at a discount with the new promos we’re releasing that day), then get everything else when Rolling Realms Redux is released next year.

    1. For this product, we’re just going to gauge demand based on update subscribers, and we’ll make a certain quantity based on that. It will be available to order from us (and then a little later from retailers), but you won’t have to wait more than a few weeks after buying it before we ship to you (opposed to a preorder, which requires the 4+ months for manufacturing and freight shipping). We anticipate the game being available next summer.

  12. Any upgrade pack coming later on? I am receiving my Rolling Realms order today and am quite bummed I missed out the the new version by this little..

    1. You didn’t miss out on anything. Rolling Realms Redux won’t be released until summer 2024. An upgrade pack doesn’t apply to what Redux is–see the description on the page above.

      1. I think I misunderstood what was written on the page. Does it mean that everything in the Redux version is new or does it mean we get the same content PLUS 12 new redux-exclusive packs? I think this might be where I got confused.

    1. We do indeed have something special planned for solo players in Redux; I’ll talk about it in the future. :)

  13. I know that the cards are designed to be written on but I still sleeve them. Is there any chance that the redux box will allow room for all cards to be sleeved?

    1. Normally for us the answer to that is always yes…but not for Rolling Realms, given that the cards are not designed for that purpose. The box would have to be twice as big, leaving a ton of empty space (and higher costs) for 99% of customers who don’t sleeve this game. The bigger box is the same size as the Rolling Realms box, just taller so the cards can stand upright, so I would recommend you get Redux and keep the original box if you’re a sleever.

  14. 12 new realms plus more to Come!?!?! That’s awesome. After seeing the news, I didn’t know there were that many ‘promos’. Purchased 8 more just now. Missing Parks and Biddy & Walter which are ‘out of stock’. the latter I’m not familiar with. Great News!!!

    1. Thanks Marco! We’re working on a dry-erase coating issue with Parks and Biddy & Walter; that’s why we’re currently not selling those realms.

      1. Ah i forgot I messaged you about this, glad to know I wasn’t going out of my mind! Will replacements be automatically sent?

        1. It’s not exactly automatic–it’s a human person who sees the request on the form and takes care of it–but yes, if you fill out the form, the replacement parts will be sent.

          1. hi Jamey. the parks rolling realms is in stock for canada store. if i purchase it will they have the dry erase issue? thanks in advance.

      2. Any idea when they may be available, have 10 packs in my cart but would be better for me to include these 2 also.

  15. 12 brand new realms, plus Expeditions, plus the potential for new promos in Aug, Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr (if the every 2 months keeps up as it has been in 2023 after showing that big stack of promo realms). This is great news. That’s the potential for 25 new realms by mid-2024.

I think the wording in the description is very clear as to this being 12 new realms as well as the box fitting all current and future realms. I love the idea of things being separated out. I currently have my separate colors in individual bags.

  16. No teasers on which 12 games will be included? I recently bought rolling realms with a handful of expansions. Are the “promos” bring referred to different from the expansion packs you sell on your website? Will they be sold individually as well as in a bundle for people who may have only a few of them and aren’t interested in rebuying any cards?

Also, will this be available at GenCon? Assuming champion discount is available at GenCon?

    Thanks!
    Lauren

    1. Rolling Realms doesn’t have any expansions, just promo realms (that’s what you see on our website and webstore). All realms in Rolling Realms Redux are 100% new, as indicated by this sentence on the above page: “All 12 realms in Rolling Realms Redux are 100% new and unique to this specific product. They were not in Rolling Realms, nor are they promos (past or future).”

    2. Will this still be infinitely scalable? Or will there be any interactions between players?

Is there anything unique about this game vs. continuing to release individually as promo realms?

      Thanks!

      1. It’s the 12 new realms that are unique about Redux. As noted above, the rules are the same, so it’s still designed for infinite scaling and remote play (i.e., it is an asset for this particular game that there is no player interaction).

  17. Exciting news! Do you know the design of the insert yet? Will there be dividers to seperate out each players? That is my frustration with the current box, that I just feel like I’m “dumping” the cards in there.

  18. Do you think this box will also hold all future realms also? Would be nice if it could also grow, not just for current and past realms.

    1. Yep, as noted above, we’ve designed the box to hold all future realms too. If we can make that clearer, let me know and I’ll edit the page! :)

  19. Burning question, does this mean no more promo realms between now and release of Redux? Do you know the dimensions of the box? Maybe it’ll have enough space to hold future expansions for a couple of years to come?

I’d really love some different colour dice this time!!

Lastly, and I’m not sure if you’ve done a blog post/design diary ect on this, but I’d love to see the process of how you approach developers to use their games, or if they approach you? Sorry for so many questions!

    1. There will be plenty of promos between now and then (maybe all of them). I do know the dimensions of the box–it is designed to hold all realms ever made (this puts a limit on the realms we’ll make). The dice are indeed a different color.

As for publishers, I reach out to them, explain what Rolling Realms is, and say I’d like to pay them and do all the work with no expectations for them to do any marketing–it’s us serving them (and fans of the game). They either say yes or no, and then we proceed accordingly. :)

        1. They will. It’s the non-Stonemaier promos that we have enough of (we’ve made several dozen unreleased promo realms for the next year)

      1. Awesome, thanks for the insight! I don’t know why any company would want to pass that up, have you had many say no?

So Rolling Realms promos will come to an end in the relative near future? I guess when all is done it’ll be around 50 realms which is more than enough to keep it fresh for years.

  20. Will the box be able to hold all realms ?

So the original ones, all promos and the new ones in Redux

    1. Yes. Here’s how I say that on the above page: “with everything in a box designed to fit all realms ever printed.”

If there’s a better way to say that, let me know so I can clarify the text.

      1. While I think this is clear, it is also not as explicit as some would like. Maybe say something like “with everything in a box designed designed to [also/even] hold all realms from the original and all promos, printed and planned.”
Unfortunately, people like me have been burned on expansions(even “Big Boxes”) that sounded like they would fit everything only to find them lacking.

      1. Mikkel is correct. As noted on the above page, Rolling Realms Redux will contain 12 new realms that no one has, even if you have all promos. That’s how it will be sold, not empty. I think that’s clear, but if there’s a way to make it even more clear on this page, please let me know.

        1. Your description is perfectly clear in the third and fourth paragraphs that the content in Redux is entirely new. If you want to be even more clear, and for those that may stop reading after the first paragraph, in the first sentence you could add “all-new” to the phrase “there are 12 different “realms” included in the game.

    1. Will there be promo bundles in the future? I would like to buy all the promo packs but buying them individually is going to be expensive.
